The door works now. They replace a spring and charged $1400 . I was stuck. After the fact I checked around and this repair should have been less than $1000 to fix. I believe that because it was Sunday and my car was trapped in the garage I was taken advantage of. On top of it I'm a senior citizen. I would not recommend Precision. I'm sure they won't post this.

While my problem with my garage door being jammed was fixed, I feel I got ripped off having been charged $832 for an hour's work. The cost should reflect the difficulty of the problem based on what was done. The cost was based on all that could go wrong before even working on the door. I know there has to be an estimate, but the true cost should be adjusted fairly according to what was needed to be done.

He was friendly and patient in working with home warranty company I have. He was knowledgeable. However, I feel like he was trying to trick me. The quote was very high. When I asked what he can do with the allowance amount from a warranty company, he quoted me 209 dollars for a tuneup. After observing his service which only included lubricating and tightening, I checked for pricing in Groupon and found a standard tuneup service for 39 dollars. Upon showing that, he lowered the price for the tuneup. I could have been easily taken advantage of. I will look for another contractor next time.

I expected to be charged more for the components than I could buy them for myself but $165.00 for a keypad i can buy anywhere for $45 I thought was bit excessive. And to pay $1200.00 for a basic door opener install was a bit pricey and most of the bolts on the hanger weren’t even tightened down . I don’t think you’ll be putting in my next opener.

I called for a simple adjustment to the belt on my garage door opener. It worked fine but in the mindset of preventative maintenance I called Precision to come take a look at it. It turned into trying to sell me a 700.00 service or a 1000.00 service. I think it is preposterous that they charge 209.95 to tighten the belt, tighten a few screws and spray some lubricant. I will definitely check out competition before I call this company again. The only positive thing about the visit was the technician Tom he was very polite.

I debated between a 1 and 2 stars. Precision was quick to respond to our broken torsion spring and the tech was professional. That was the only good thing for them. In this area of Columbus there are many garage door repair companies and as due diligence called several to obtain a quote. I explained everything that was needed and what the issue was; gave them exact measurements of the torsion spring and that I would need 2. They said it would be $80-$250, max would be $250. When I called other companies it was anywhere from $220-$350 max for both springs and was upfront about their process. I confirmed that it was for both torsion springs and not just the one. They confirmed. Great! Went with precision. After the repairman looked at the springs, ball bearings, and the motor in all he said it was in all good condition and needs new springs. He did mention that the ball bearings were wearing down and they may have about 2-3 more years left in them. I asked how many and he said $240 for all bear bearings, $80 a piece. I said okay, worth it to keep it longer and not have further issues down the road. Then when all was said and done he said the total was going to be ~$800 taxes included. $800! How does $250 (max) plus the $240 for the ball bearings equal $800. The tech replied that each spring is $250. I told him what his coworkers told me and he said they don't know what they are talking about. They never know prices. Maybe the company should be more communitive between repairman and the office. Why quote different prices? So if you wish to pay three times what the quoted price is, go with these guys. I wish I would have said no and gone with another company that was more upfront and does free estimates onsite. If I would have said no to them they would have charged $50 for coming out. Go somewhere else if you don't want to be surprised with costs and be lied to about the quotes. I understand that quotes are just quotes but to be off by three times is ridiculous.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. There was a miscommunication on our end in regards to the pricing for our springs and we appreciate you giving us the opportunity to fix this error for you and get the cost of the spring to the correct price you were originally quoted at Precision Garage Doors we offer 100% customer satisfaction guarantee.
I may be back for future garage needs as Precision’s customer service is AMAZING! I had posted my review and within 5 minutes got a call from the representative. She cared what I had to say and how my experience went. I was not expecting any form of reimbursement or anything to really come out of this review. But the fact is they care about their customers and offered to make things right. They definitely turned this around from a 1-2 start to a 4 star. Thank you! (The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5-star is because it wasn’t right the first time but thank you for making it right after the fact.)

Felt the technician was attempting to sell me upgrades on my operner. It didn't appear sincere but rather a ploy to generate sales. If I didn't know any better, I would say the technician got a peice of the action for upgrades. I got a little push back when I presented a coupon for a free trip charge with service over $100.00. The tech said most of the bill was the trip charge and the coupon wouldn't apply. That wasn't correct since my final amount I paid was $117.65 and the trip charge was $49.95. He did finally accept the coupon and reduced my bill from what was originally $180'ish. Looking at the bill, I got charged for "fleet transportation" - $20.00. Seems redunant. Get the trip charge waived with a coupon but get hammered with a "fleet transportation" charge! Lastly, the tech fixed my light issue, it wasn't coming on when the garage door was activated. He fixed it so good it won't shut off now! Back to having a problem again! Doubtful I'll be a return customer.

I was very surprised to hear from my wife that your Technician (Tom Palmer) came into my house twice without a mask even though Franklin County is under a mandatory mask order and wearing a mask to protect my 62 year old wife would have been the least I would have expected. Very disappointed in this. All the work was done rapidly and professionally and the garage door works perfectly now. The cost was higher than I expected, but I did not have time to take bids and cannot say if it was above the market or not. My low rating is based strictly on your employees total disregard for my wife's safety and health.

REVIEW UPDATE: I initially wrote a five star rating shortly after your technician replaced the cables, one hinge, and rewound the spring. The door was still running roughly. He stated he could do no more, and he recommended a new garage door. Later that day I watched your video on your website (Precision) to see if there was anything I could do to help the door until I could replace it. I followed your video's instructions (cleaning the track, tightening all the bolts, lubricating the spring with lithium grease, etc). This is when I discovered that the technician had stripped out 3 of the 4 bolts attaching the new hinge he had installed. He had not done any of the recommended items in your video, or even mentioned that they should be done. After I performed the items set forth in your video, and replaced the stripped out bolts on the hinge, the door is running much better and much smoother. I will be looking elsewhere for my garage door repairs in the future.

David I would like to apologize about the recent experience you had with our company. Garage door repairs are never fun and always come at the wrong time. Customer satisfaction is very important to our company. I have tried to reach out by phone and left a voicemail to see if there was anything we could do. All of our technicians are trained to lubricate not only just the springs but all of the moving components of every door we work on. Also, the safety inspections states that the top panel is bending and sagging in the middle. This is why the technician recommended a new door because the structural integrity of the door has been compromised. Again, I apologize that the experience you had with us was less than optimal but wish you best in the future.

Very expensive. They changed both springs which I can buy for $80 total at Home Depot charged me over $400, took the tech 20 minutes. Quick and easy fix if you don’t mind paying way too much

Scheduled 2 to 4. Later, received a phone call moving appointment to 6-8. No one showed. Called after 8 to find out the system had me scheduled for the next morning which was never an option. With no options, rescheduled for the evening of the following day forcing me to miss a previously scheduled dinner meeting. Tech that finally arrived did a good job.
- Toney Durieux
Hi Toney, We're so sorry to hear about your scheduling experience; please rest assured that this issue was immediately addressed upon our discovery. Upselling and Ripoff Prices I followed the many glowing reviews about Scott and Precision Garage Door Service, so had them out to address a likely broken spring (big bang just like a broken spring, but no pieces visible). The good news: Scott came out within a couple hours of my online booking and the trip charge is a very reasonable $20. Also, Scott is a personable, interactive guy who likes to chat. The bad news: The whole trip was devoted to upselling unneeded and horrendously priced services. For each suggested service, it was all done under the guise of: “Well maybe it is a problem and maybe it isn’t, so it is up to you whatever you want to have done.” That is not what I need or expect from an experienced technician. I want to hear what is essential to do, and what is unnecessary. With all their experience, they should know much better than most homeowners. For example, Scott noted that there was some “dirt” around to torsion bar bearings, actually fine metal filings from wear. All true, all normal after 35 years years in service. But there was no sign of binding or free play in the bearings, so no reason to expect trouble. He quoted a price of $176 per bearing plate, noting that garage door parts were horrendously expensive. Bearing plates cost about $10 each at Home Depot or Amazon. The replacement time for two was to be about 1 hour according to Scott. That makes the labor rate for the work of about $300 per hour, more than many doctors and lawyers make. Scott thought that the spring should/could be changed, even though it was not broken and it was installed within the last two years. The cost for that? $392. The time for that work was 1/2 hour to 1 hour. The cost of garage door springs at Home Depot of Amazon? $40-$50. Again, a $300-$600 effective labor rate. My advice: steer away from Precision and find a company that knows what you need and charges what they should.
